Attention Residential Service Providers! Earn All Your CEUs in 2023 from PWCF!
PWCF is vendored by CA’s Department of Social Services to provide Continuing Education Units (CEU) to Adult Residential Providers. Attend an Overview Training Session any month of the year, and for more in-depth training, attend a Focus Session.
Monthly PWS Residential Staff Training Overview Sessions
This two-hour live webinar is designed to meet the requirement toward the recertification of Adult Residential Facility Providers. The course will provide an overview of PWS’s physiological and neurocognitive symptoms, describe how to create the environmental basics that all individuals with PWS need, and provide an overview of PWS-specific behavior management interventions and strategies.
This training is FREE for PWCF Professional Members (agency affiliation or individual). Handouts and video recording provided to all attendees. Attend as many training sessions as you’d like.
Earn up to 2 CEU hours for live attendance. CEU Certificate $30/person for PWCF Members | $50/person non-members

In order to earn CEUs, attendees must register and be on screen during the entire training.

Individual Focus Sessions: $45 for PWCF Professional Members (agency or individual) | $75 Non-members

Focus Sessions Agenda:
The course will provide an overview of PWS’s most common physiological symptoms and current treatment or management strategies, summarize the PWS Environmental Basics and how to implement them, provide an overview of the use of Empathy as a powerful behavior management tool, provide an overview of the use of Collaborative Problem-Solving strategies, and finally, provide options for care providers to help manage their own stress as they care for this highly complex and challenging population.

Focus Session #2: Strategies to Reduce Oppositionalism and Arguing.
The course will provide an overview of the ubiquitous nature of anxiety in PWS and provide specific strategies that help reduce this anxiety and therefore reduce maladaptive, unwanted behaviors. Specifically, this course will focus on strategies to respond to PWS’ low tolerance to frustration and disappointment, oppositional thinking, inflexibility, concrete thinking, and the high need to be perceived as correct.

Focus Session #3: Strategies to Improve Cooperation.
This course will provide an overview of the ubiquitous nature of anxiety in PWS and provide specific strategies that help reduce this anxiety and therefore reduce maladaptive, unwanted behaviors. Specifically, this course will clarify that punishment and consequences are not effective with residents with PWS and in fact can increase maladaptive behaviors. We will focus on strategies to increase cooperation using strategies including Paint the Picture, Fixing a Past Goof, how to manage PWS’s impulsivity, attentional deficits, hyperfocus, motivational issues, and how to use PWS’s natural egocentrism to increase cooperation.

Focus Session #4: Manage Obsessive-Compulsive Behaviors and When to Use Medication.
This course will outline strategies to manage PWS’s obsessive-compulsive symptoms including skin picking, collecting, excessive talking, and excessive questions. We will describe how to respond to PWS’s unique symptom to confabulate, and false allegations of abuse. Finally, we will explore PWS’s psychiatric symptom profile, medication management, admonition against removing supports, and how important it is to educate other professional providers about PWS.
